Privacy Policy
This policy explains what data ScreenMate (the Windows application and the website screenmate.me) collects, why, and what your choices are. ScreenMate is provided by CKTDIGITALS LIMITED, a company registered in England and Wales, Suite 11019, 5 Brayford Square, London, United Kingdom ("we", "us"). Questions: support@screenmate.me.
1. What the app collects
Device identifier. On first launch the app generates a random identifier and registers it with our server to create an anonymous account with free credits. It is not derived from hardware serial numbers and cannot identify you personally on its own.
Your questions. When you hold the push-to-talk key, the app records your voice until you release it and takes a screenshot of your screen at that moment. The audio, the screenshot and any text you type are sent through our server to the AI provider (Google Gemini API) to produce an answer. Our server forwards this data and streams the answer back; it does not store audio, screenshots or answers. Google processes API data under its Gemini API terms; for paid API usage Google states that prompts are not used to train its models.
Usage and credits. We keep a ledger of credits added and used for your account (timestamps, number of questions, the mode used), so we can charge the right number of credits and investigate problems. We do not keep the content of questions.
Email address (optional). If you link your email in Settings, we store it with your account so you can restore your credits after a reinstall or on another PC. We send a one-time verification code to that address; codes expire after 10 minutes.
App version and technical logs. Requests include the app version so we can support older builds. Our infrastructure provider (Cloudflare) processes your IP address to deliver the service and to limit abuse (for example, too many registrations from one address). We do not build profiles from this data.
2. What stays on your computer
Conversation history, remembered notes and preferences, and a copy of the last screenshot used for troubleshooting are stored locally in the app's data folder on your PC. They are not uploaded except as part of a question's context (a short summary of recent conversation is sent with each question so the assistant can follow up). You can clear the memory at any time from Settings, and uninstalling the app removes these files.
3. Website
The website does not use analytics or advertising cookies. If you join the waitlist we store your email address and the time you signed up, and use it only to send you release news. You can unsubscribe by replying to any message or writing to support@screenmate.me. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes IP addresses in server logs for security.
4. Payments
When credit packs go on sale, payments will be handled by a payment provider (such as Paddle) acting as merchant of record. We receive confirmation of the purchase and the email address used so we can add credits to your account; we never see or store card details.
5. Who we share data with
- Google LLC (Gemini API): processes audio, screenshots and text to generate answers.
- Cloudflare, Inc.: hosts our servers, website and download files, and routes support email.
- Email delivery provider: sends verification codes and waitlist messages to the address you provide.
- Payment provider: handles purchases when available.
We do not sell personal data and we do not share it with advertisers.
6. Retention
Account and credit records are kept while your account exists. Verification codes are deleted after use or expiry. Waitlist entries are kept until you ask us to remove them. Server logs are retained by our infrastructure provider for a short period for security purposes.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under UK and EU data protection law) you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to data portability. To exercise these rights, or to delete your account and any linked email, write to support@screenmate.me from the linked address or include your Account ID from Settings. You also have the right to complain to your supervisory authority; in the UK this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
8. Children
ScreenMate is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country) and we do not knowingly collect their data.
9. International transfers
Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses provided by those providers.
10. Changes
We will post any changes to this policy on this page and update the effective date. Significant changes will also be announced in the app.
